こういう場合は何をインストールしたのかを明記して下さい。バージョンもです。

mate-desktop のリポジトリの設定が原因です。
ubuntu14.04 では
http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/download#ubuntu_1404_lts_trusty_thar
の様な設定になります。

その前に間違って登録したレポジトリを無効化しなければなりません。
[Ubuntuソフトウェアセンター]-[編集]-[ソフトウェアソース]と進んで複数あるタグを見ていくと
mate-desktop.org を含んだ設定があると思いますのでチェックを外して下さい。

それから先に記したURLで設定して下さい。

チェックを外して。うえのURLで設定しみたところ（英語なので、感で）メッセージは出なくなりました。
