この問題についてのIRCのログが

の中程以降にあります。KDEでの日本語入力に詳しい方の協力をお願いします。日本語なら翻訳します。

読んだ結果を自分なりに日本語でまとめてみます。
自分も近い将来似たようなことをするので、この問題に興味があります。
解決策は私は分かりませんが、日本語化することの意味はいろいろあると思いますので。
（mjnさんが解決できそうですが、日本語のログも残した方がいいと思うので投稿します。）

１．問題点
OpenOffice.orgの日本語入力だけが動かない

２．状況
・本家kubuntu（英語版）を使用中(KDE)
・他の全てのアプリでの日本語入力は問題ない。
・openoffice.org-l10-ja、openoffice.org-l-help-ja、openoffice.org-help-jaはインストールされている。
・scimは通常パネルに表示されているが、openoffice起動中に表示されない（？）
・一時カタカナのみ打てるようになった

何か違う点などあれば修正お願いします。

私も以前Windows XPでOOoを使用中にATOKでの変換をできなかった経験があるのですが、なにかそれとも関係があるのでしょうか？

problem solved, thx alot for all the replies, im using anthy as my input system as much as i understand it is the best available.
all i had to do is set in "/etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL" everything to SCIM and now it works

Perhaps content of /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL is set by some imput method package or "im-switch" package. The package is very useful for multilingual user like you:)
Try "$ sudo im-switch -c" for current locale or "$ sudo im-switch -z ja_JP -c" for specific locale if you want to try other language or input method.

If youre using JP-106 keyboard, input modes can be controled by "Muhenkan"(無変換), Alt+"Katakana/Hiragana"(カタカナひらがな) , Ctrl+"/",Ctrl+".",CtrlL+">"... these bindings can be change by scim setting dialog. Give a right-click to SCIM button shown in desktop and click "SCIM setup"then SCIM setup dialog will start. Next click "Anthy" in "IMEngine" category and select "Key binding".

ah something additional i have to ask, konqueror has a problem with viewing some characters it cant show the fonts correctly instead of that there is a smale square, any idea why?

sorry i have not been able to be of any help, but thank you for sharing your expertise. i believe you have much knowledge than I do and I myself will keep note of your instructions (for future reference (^^)).
