ウィンドウがでかすぎる!

こんばんは。 僕はUbuntuを使ってまだ間もないのですが、ウィンドウがでかすぎて、情報がディスプレイの中で見えないものがあります。 インターネットなどは、スクロールがあるので、いいのですが、オプションなどの大事な部分をいじるときなど、とにかくスクロールがないものは全ての文字が見えないのです。 設定のしかたが分かる人、ぜひ教えて下さい。

xserver の設定が上手くいっていないのだと思います。
取り敢えずは、kyotaro さんのマシン環境を詳しく書いてください。

画面の解像度が狭い、という問題は別途存在するので解決できるならした方がいいかもしれませんが、とりあえずは以下の方法で「見えない部分」に触ることはできます。

 ・Alt + マウスクリックでウインドウを「つかむ」ことができるので、「つかんで」動かすと、隠れて見えない下の方みも見えます。
 ・Alt + Space でウインドウのメニューが開きます。この中で「移動」を選び、カーソルキーやマウスで動かすこともできます。

印刷機などのドライバですか、そのようなものであれば、何も、適用されていません。

いえ、グラフィックドライバです、現在はグラフィックドライバが上手く動作していないと考えられます。
kyotaroさんのPCに採用されているのはVIA KL-133Aと言うものです(多分)

問題はUbuntuに専用のドライバが入っているのかどうか、メーカーからLinux用のドライバの提供が有るかどうか。(この辺もkyotaroさんの情報提出が多ければ素早い情報が得られやすいのでご協力を)
もし無ければ凡庸のドライバが自動的に充てがわれますので、まずは確認を。


アプリケーション→アクセサリ→端末を開いて$マークの後に
grep autoconfigured /var/log/Xorg.0.log
と入力(コピペ)して下さい。
その結果で判断できます。

この他にも原因を突き止めるために幾つか情報が必要ですが、同じく端末から
gedit  /var/log/Xorg.0.log
と実行して現れたテキストエディタの内容を全て提示して頂ければやり取りの手間が多少は省けます。

hir0さんの言っておられるドライバーは、モニターを表示するためのグラフィックドライバーのことです。
こちらの機種をお使いでしょうか?

もしそうなら
ビデオコントローラーがS3というのが厳しい気がします。
PCI接続のビデオカードを増設してそちらにモニターを接続するという方法も考えられますが、
スリムタイプのPCケースの場合、ビデオカードによっては、ケースに収まらない可能性もあります。

rewindさんの方法は(多分)全てがコケたとき(hitoさんのも)に役立つし、CMasamiさんなんてもう、凄いんだから!(ヘルメットの色が変わるんですよ!!!  アッでもあれですよ、いろんな方面があり凄い人いっぱいなんですよ)

kyotaroさんへ、ごめんなさい。
Xorg.0.logはもっと、もっと、長いです。
テキストエディタの上部に有る 「編集(E)」から「全て選択」を選んでコピーして下さい。

それとCMasamiさんの指摘されている方向へ話は動くと思いますが、kyotaroさんの理解の出来ないまま進行するかもしれませんが大丈夫です。

解像度を800*600から変更するのが目的なので、最後に何がどうなったのかの報告はするつもりです(私が途中で挫折して他メンバとバトンタッチしなければ)←と言うか他メンバからのアドバイスが有れば試してみて!

取りあえずは、もう一度ログの方を提示してもらえれば助かります。

ディスプレイに合った解像度を手書きで明示的に書き足すと思いましたが、ネット上で何やら感じの良い記述を見つけました。

試してみましょう。
端末の操作は慣れていないと思いますけどコピペでトライして下さい。

「アプリケーション」→「アクセサリ」→「端末」を選択、「$」マークの後から
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup

を入力(コピペ)して、エンター。

ls /etc/X11
を入力(コピペ)して、エンター。
端末にxorg.conf.backup の文字が有ればOKです、次に進みます。

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
を入力(コピペ)して、エンター。

テキストエディタが開き、前半が#の付いた文字で後半がしたの様になっていると思いますので太字の一行を追加して保存再起動してみて下さい。

この設定ファイルはハードに合わないとデスクトップが表示され無かったり多重に映し出されたりします。
その中で試行錯誤の設定の調整になるかもしれませんが、その時は最初に作成したxorg.conf.backupを使用して元に戻せますので驚かないでね。

すみません。
$ sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
と実行すると白紙のテキストエディタが開くのでコピペして保存して下さい。
保存先やファイル名はテキストエディタを開いたときに指定しているので「保存」だけで大丈夫です。

それから、改めて#17を実行してみて下さい。 なぜ直接「Option  "CRTOnly"  "true"」を書き込んだものを保存しないかは、もしもの時のリカバリのやり取りを容易にする為です。

ただ、この方法は多く使われているとは思われますが正規の方法では無く、
正しくはコマンドでシステムから生成する様です。

こちらのURLを参考にされるなら
    $ sudo service gdm stop
    $ sudo Xorg -configure
    $ sudo mv ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    $ sudo service gdm start
この4行をメモして下さい。

gdm stop でグラフィカルな部分が停止して真っ黒な画面になります(驚かないでね)ので
まず最初に「ctrl」+「alt」+「F1」を押して下さい。
そこで通常の様にログインします。現在のユーザー名とパスワードでOKです。
上記の4行を順番に実行すれば、最後のgdm start でデスクトップ画面が現れます。

途中で元の画面に戻るには「ctrl」+「alt」+「F7」ですが gdm stop の後だと再起動かgdmをstart させなければ行けません。 万一の時は $ sudo reboot  コマンドで再起動してください。
