ubuntu10.04におけるNVIDIA X driverエラー及びubuntu9.04における解像度適用

解像度が小さく画面の80％ほどです
ディスプレイの検出も不明となっています
スペック
Core 2 Duo E8400  GeForce 9600GT  ディスプレイ BenQ  E2200HD

エラーメッセージ
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver.  Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

ubuntu9.04ではNVIDIA X driverが正常に動作しましたubuntu9.04のxorg.confをubuntu10.04にコピーしても同じ症状でした

またubuntu9.04で設定した解像度が再起動すると低解像度に戻ってしまいますNVIDIA X driverで設定を保存しようとするとエラーが出るのでxorg.confの内容を

インストールしたNVIDIAのドライバ全てをアンインストールし、改めてシステム > システム管理 > ハードウエアドライバからNVIDIA高性能グラフィックドライバ[推奨]を有効にする。

ubuntu9.04で設定した解像度が再起動すると低解像度に戻ってしまいます

昔、NVidia の設定は、メニューから起動するとユーザー権限で起動されていたと思います。
したがって当時、/etc/X11/xorg.conf に保存できずエラーになっていたと。
端末から sudo で起動すれば、保存できます。
プログラム名は覚えていませんが、nvidia- まで入力してタブを二回タイプすると候補が
表示され、次の一文字を入力してまたタブを入力するとプログラム名が補完されます。
