b43-fwcutterはbcm43xx系のチップ用のファームウェアをインストールする際に使用しますが、
まずは、チップの確認した方がよいかと思います。

LANカードの正式な型式も念の為投稿下さい。

Ubuntu側からの確認のため、下記のコマンドを実行して結果を投稿下さい。

しかし、firmware-b43-installerをインストールしたところ、突如カードのランプが力強く点灯しました！
同じような症状の方も、これをインストールしてみたら直るかもしれませんね。
