初めまして

この間ubuntuを始めたばかりの初心者です

ubnutu11.04を利用していて

６４ビット版なので32ビット版のソフトを使いたいと思い

調べた結果ia32-libsをインストールすればいいとわかったのですが

端末に　sudo apt-get install ia32-getと入力すると

パッケージリストを読み込んでいます... 完了
依存関係ツリーを作成しています
状態情報を読み取っています... 完了
E: パッケージ ia32-get が見つかりません

と出てしまいインストールできません

解決方法をどなたかよろしくお願いします。

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=ia32-libs&searchon=names&suite=natty&section=all
universeレポジトリに含まれるため、パッケージマネージャの設定からレポジトリの欄を開き、universeレポジトリを有効化してみて下さい。

おお。タイトルだけ見て、タイプミスは無いものと考えてしまっていましたが。。
念の為のタイプミスが無いことの確認と、状況確認のため、

コード:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

のそれぞれの入力コマンドと、その際の出力をコピペで投稿願えますでしょうか。

解決とは直接関係ないかもしれませんが、なぜhardyなんぞという7世代も前のリポジトリが入っているのでしょう？
環境を整理したほうがいいかもしれませんよ。

たしかia32-libsを調べたときに自分で追加したんだと思います。

まさか7世代も前のものだなんて思いませんでした。

かなりややこしいことになっていますね。。
レポジトリを編集して、natty以外(maverick, lucid, hardyなど)は全て無効化して下さい。
その後、端末で、

コード:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

の結果を再度投稿してみて下さい。

DropBoxのmaverickレポジトリが残っているのが気になりますが、直接的に影響しているわけでもなさそうなので、後日、対処を考えてください。

に沿って、日本語レポジトリを追加してみてください。
具体的には、

大きな勘違いをしていました。

ubuntu11.04は32ビットのパソコンにインストールしたら

32ビットとしてでつかえるんですね。

いやいや、それこそ大きな勘違いですよ。
64bitOSを入れれば64bitシステムです。32bitOSを入れれば32bitのシステムです。

そもそも、今回のPCにはubuntu11.04のどのバージョンを入れたのでしょうか？

ダウンロードしたディスクイメージが　ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso　であれば64bitですし、
ubuntu-ja-11.04-desktop-i386.iso　であれば32bitです。

自分でubuntu-11.04-i386-japaneseをいれてたみたいです。

36ビット版のOSをいれると32ビット版で動き６４ビット版のOSをいれると６４ビット版で動く

ということですね。

i386版を使用されていたようですね。

Ubuntuにはi386版(実質的には一部のi586、もしくは、i686のCPUが対象です)(32bit版)と、amd64版(64bit版)があります。

CPUには、
32bitシステムのみ使えるもの(今となってはやや古い目のCPUです)、
32bitシステムと64bitシステム両方使えるもの(今出回っているCPUはほとんどこのタイプです)、
などがあります。

64bitに対応したCPUを搭載したPCでないと64bit版のOSはインストールできません。
両方に対応している場合は、32bitか64bitのどちらをインストールして使っても構いません。
