マザーボードのイヤフォンジャックから直接出力しています。
マザーボードはm4a88td-v evo usb3です。
biosで見てみたところ、オンボードはオンになっていました。
サウンドの設定から見てみると、ハードウェア
internal audio
rs880 audio device(radeon hd 4200)
となっていました。
初心者で情報量が少なくてすいません。
どうかよろしくお願いします。

最初のマザーボードンのコメントを見逃してました
マザーボードで調べてみるとサラウンドのチップはALC892 みたいですね。
自作 パソコンみたいですね

ちょっとこれだけだと情報が足りないので、yasushi04さんの言うように、lspciでハードウェアの(PCIバス/PCI-Expressバスの)情報を教えて下さい。
lspciを実行して情報を取得するには、端末(gnome-terminal)を利用します。私の環境だと、Ubuntuのメニューからアクセサリ、端末とたどると端末を起動できます。
端末が開いたらキーボードで「lspci」と打ち込んでエンターキーを押して下さい。そうすると情報が出力されますので、コピペでこのフォーラムに投稿して下さい。

見たところ、PulseAudioサウンドサーバーの内部設定やALSAのPCMデバイス設定に問題はなさそうです。
それでは最後に、以下の3つのコマンドの実行結果を教えて下さい。それぞれ、サウンドデバイスに最も近いところ(ドライバと考えて下さい)の設定情報を教えてくれます。
pacmd list-cards;
amixer -c 0;
amixer -c 1;
なかなか解決策を提示できなくてすみません。よろしくお願いします。

ここまで調べてきて、特に設定の不具合など見当たりませんでしたので、おそらく、サウンドデバイスの実体としてのチップ(コーデック)の実装と、サウンドデバイスのドライバとなるALSAカーネルモジュールのモードが合わないことによるトラブルかと思います。
「aplay -L;」の出力からチップは「ALC892」であることがわかります。
「pacmd list-cards;」の出力から、カーネルモジュールは「snd_hda_intel」がロードされていることがわかります。
この場合、このファイルを参照して設定ファイルを設置し、カーネルモジュールのモード変更して対処することになります。
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz
が、ファイルにはALC892に関する記述がありません。おそらく、結構新しめのチップだからだと思います。Realtek社のウェブサイトで検索すると、ALC892は8-Channelシリーズの最新であることが推定できます。

そこで、先のファイルから、8-Channelシリーズである「ALC882/883/885/888/889」を抜き出してみました。

このリストの中からそれっぽいオプションを見つけ、以下のようにして設定ファイルを配置します。
1. 端末で「sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf;」を実行
2. テキストエディタが開くので、「options snd-hda-intel model=(オプション)」を記述
3. 保存してテキストエディタを終了
4. コンピュータを再起動
5. 今回作成したファイルを「sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf;」で消すことで設定を無効化できます
それではどのオプションが適しているのかと言うと、私にはちょっと判断付きかねます。私的には「3stack-dig」とか「6stack-dig」、「3stack-6ch-dig」あたりかなと思いますが、確信はありません。。。

以前から有った音が出ない問題の報告に開発チームが実際に確認が取れたので上流に渡して改善を図るとの事でしたが、、、 カーネルのアップグレードだとは思いますが、どのバージョンでなのかは分かりません。
この問題の確認が取れてのが11.04の時ですが、実際に報告が上がっているのはかなり前です。
最初から音が出ないパターンと、突然音が出なくなる場合、設定を変更したら音が出ず元に戻してもダメなパターン、触っていると治ったとか偶然によるもので他の環境では(同じPCでも)修復の再現性が無いのが現状です。
「弄る」でポピュラーなのは「サウンドの設定」の「ハードウェア」タブの「プロファイル」を変更したり変更して元に戻したりしてみる。
音声の確認は「サウンドの効果」タブで「犬の音」等をクリックすると良いかも。
