　LiveCDのハッシュ値を確認した所、正常なものと一致しておりLiveCDの破損等では無いと思われます。
　また、インストールとアップデートにトピックを作りましたが初心者サポートのほうが適切でしたでしょうか。

自分にもこの意味というか必要性がわかりませんが、HDD（CドライブかDドライブ）上の
ISOファイルを直接指定したらいいと思いますけどどうなんでしょう。
それでもエラーがでるようでしたらわかりません。

1)使えるPCは1台のみ 2)そのPCのCDドライブが壊れてる 3)使えるUSBメモリは1本のみ、という縛りですね。

色々な方法はあるかと思いますが、私なら、仮想マシン上のUbuntuを使って、USBメモリにUbuntuをインストールします。

1. VirtualBoxかVMwareをWindowsにインストールし、仮想ゲストOSとしてUbuntuをインストール。
2. ゲストOSのUbuntuを起動し、仮想CDドライブにisoファイルをセットした上で、差したUSBメモリにUbuntuをインストール。

他の人の意見も参考にしてください。

UNetbootinのホームページを読んだところ、ようやく投稿#1の状況が分かってきました。

そこで実験がてら、WindowsのUNetbootinを使い、HDDにUbuntuを"frugalインストール"(つまり、投稿#1で言う"展開")し、その"frugal インストールした"Ubuntuを起動して、更に別のHDDにUbuntuをインストールできるかを試してみました。

※ 投稿#1ではUSBメモリにインストールしてますが、USBメモリが手元にないので、HDDにしました。
※ 実験した環境は、実機ではなくVMware仮想マシン。
※ WindowsのUNetbootinは最新版(5.63)
※ Ubuntu 11.04のisoファイルは別途ダウンロードしておいたubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso
※ Ubuntuのインストーラーの冒頭では"English"を選択。

試行の結果、投稿#1と同じと思われるエラーが発生しました。

エラーはダイアログボックスで出力され、

/dev/sda1はVista(Cドライブ)に相当するのですが、それが/cdromにマウントされている事と、それと同時に/cdromが/target/cdromにマウントされている事が、とても奇妙に思えます。

エラーメッセージ「An Attempt to configure apt～」でググると類似の事例はあるようですが、気力が尽きました。

　申し訳ありません。展開という表現は間違ってますね。
　LiveCDをHDDにインストールしてWindowsとデュアルブートさせるといった感じでしょうか。何だか良い表現が見つかりません。
　この方法を使う理由としてはUSBメモリが一本しかなくCDドライブは破損していて読み書きができない状態の為です。この状態でUSBメモリにインストールするのはこの方法が適当なのではないかと思い当りました。
　

あれこれ悩むより、手っ取り早く、CD ドライブを新品(DVD、Blu-ray 等でも可)に交換する、というのが、一番いいのでは ?
