ubuntu 12.04でWN-G54/USL(zd1211rw) USB無線LANの接続方法

掲題のubuntu 12.04にてIO-DATAのWN-G54/USL(USBタイプの無線LAN)の接続方法を教えてください。

ドライバはzd1211rwであろうと思います。USBのIDは「04bb:0938」です。

過去に10.10から11.04のバージョンではUSBのIDをソースファイルに追加記入しmake作業の上、動作させた実績がありますが、12.04にアップする時に過去に修正したソースを間違ってディレクトリごと削除してしまいました。
作業手順も一緒に削除されてしまい、ネットで検索しても以前のイメージとは違うような気がするものしかヒットせず困っています。

ubuntuの無線LANドライバ関係では最近のバージョンではrt2870staがrt2800usbに変更になっている事例もあり、zd1211rwにおいても何か変更があるのかも知れませんが、ご存知の方、宜しくお願い致します。

現在の状態は、WN-G54/USLをセットし
sudo modprobe zd1211rw
とするとドライバが読み込まれますが無線LAN親機のSSIDは無線LANのアイコンをクリックしても表示されません。これはUSBのIDが標準のドライバに組み込まれていないからだと思っています。

そこで、PlanexのGW-USMicroN-G(rt2800usbのドライバを使用している)を接続した時の事例をもとに
sudo -s
echo 04bb 0938 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/zd1211rw/new_id
exit
としてUSBのIDを追加してみました。(これがzd1211rwにも摘要できる正しい方法かは分かりませんが?)

そうしたところ、SSIDの表示もでて無線LANのアイコンも接続を試みようとグルグルと回転しますが、セキュリティのパスワードを要求するのみで接続できませんでした。
ネットワークのアイコンから「接続を編集する」をクリックし無線のセキュリティをWEP方式でもWPA/WPA2(personal)方式に変更しても同じ結果でした。10.10や11.04の時にはWEP方式で動作させておりました。
また、ubuntu12.04+PlanexのGW-USMicroN-GではWEP方式もWPA/WPA2(personal)方式でも両方とも問題なく動作しています。

ソースファイルを修正してコンパイルする方法でもUSBのIDを起動時にパラメータとして渡す方法でも(Ndis Wrapper方式以外で)、このようにすれば動作するのでは?とのヒントがありましたら宜しくお願い致します。

この時点ではパネルのネットワーク表示に無線LAN「Airport」のアクセスポイントの表示は出てきません。
WN-G54/USLはzd1211bのようでしたので、こちらのページを参考にして http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/zd1211rw/AddID

を実行するとパネルのネットワークアイコンの表示が接続を試みる状態に変わりますが、パスワードを求められ正しいパスワードを入力しても接続できません。
仕方がなく切断をクリックして作業を中断しました。

尚、ネットワークの設定は「WEP」にて設定しています。

ログイン直後になぜzd1211rwがロードされているのかが気になりますが、syslogでは

ところどころで<warn>の表示がありますが
May 12 17:14:59 ubuntu101 NetworkManager[878]: <warn> Activation (wlan0/wireless): association took too long.
は最初の接続が何回かのリトライが終わり、WEPのキーの入力を再度求めて来たときにもう一度続行したものです。
結局ダメそうなので強制的に「切断」をクリックして終了しました。

あと、お返事に「ログイン直後になぜzd1211rwがロードされているのかが気になりますが」とありましたので、チョット気になり下記のことを試してみました。

1)一度電源を切りWN-G54/USLを本体のUSBから外しました。
2)再起動しlsmodで状態を見てみるとzd1211rwの表示がされました。
3)sudo modprobe -r zd1211rw を行い、再度lsmodをすればzd1211rwの表示はされませんでした。
4)そのまま再起動をかけログイン後にlsmodで表示をすると、またzd1211rwが表示されました。この時WN-G54/USLは外したままです。

何か変でしょうか?

zd1211rwを必要としている機器がないのにロードされているのであれば変ですが、子機が使えない原因とは関係ないでしょう。

親機側の設定でSSIDを隠す、MACアドレスによるフィルタなど特別な事が行われているとかはないでしょうか?

GW-US54GXSのデバイスIDを削除したzd1211rw.koを作り、試したところ同じ状況になりましたので、/sys/.../new_idに設定する方法ではうまくいかないようです。
ドライバをリビルドすると動くかもしれません。

ドライバ作成手順(参考):
作業ディレクトリの作成

必要なパッケージのインストール

早速、試してみました。結論から言いますと、zd1211rw.koのドライバの作成ができ、Wireless接続の動作もWEPで可能となりました。

ここから下の文章は余談ですが、ソースの修正&コンパイルの作業も以前に行ったことを思い出しつつ、他の色々なページも見ながらチョコチョコと行っていました。
ところが、makeのコードを入力するとmakefileが見つからないとか、buildの作業場所がないとかエラーが出て、何かが間違っているのだろう・・・と悩んでおりました。

今日のjackalopeさんの投稿があり、もう一度最初からと、その手順で行ってみても、コンパイルの段階でmakefileが見つからないと下記のようなエラーになりました。

cd linux-3.2.0
make -C /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build M=$(pwd)/drivers/net/wireless/zd1211rw

make: ディレクトリ `/lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic/build' に入ります
make: *** ターゲットが指定されておらず, makefile も見つかりません.  中止.
make: ディレクトリ `/lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic/build' から出ます

昨日も過去の事例にしたがってmakeした時に、buildがないようなメッセージが出たので、単純に作業場所のディレクトリを作成すれば良いのかな?と思いmkdirでbulidディレクトリを作成しておりました。

うぅ~ん、これだけキチンとした手順を示して頂いているのだから、こちらのシステム環境の何かが違うのかなと独り言を唸りながら 、もう一台ある通常はWindowsで利用しているパソコンのubuntuを起動して/lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic/buildディレクトリの構造を見てみると/usr/src/linux-headers-3.2.0-24-genericへのリンクになっている様子が伺えました。

へぇっ、これが正しい形なの?と思い、先ずはそちらのパソコンでmakeしてみたら、すんなりと終了しドライバが作成できました。
その作成されたzd1211rw.koのドライバをUSBメモリを使用してmakeがダメだったパソコンへコピーして、動作確認を行いました。

以前には、今回make作業がダメだったパソコンでもドライバを作成していたので、システム的には問題ないと思い込んでいましたが、結局は今回12.04へのバージョンアップ時にシステム環境がおかしくなったのが原因ではないかと思われます。
