にも書きましたが、Graphics_LinuxXFree86_GX2_2.08.tar.gzはそのままでは現在のUbuntuで使うことはできない可能性が高いです。
マシンのVRAMサイズによりますが、geodeドライバかvesaドライバを使って、マシンの性能の範囲で出せる最大解像度を設定する方向で検討いただくのがよいかと思います。

削除することで解決しました。

sudo xrandrを行った結果を以下に示します。

640x480        59.9*    59.9 
   320x240       120.1

と表示されました。

希望している解像度は　１２８０X１０２４　または　１０２４X７６８　にしたいです。
使用しているディスプレイの推薦している解像度が上記の２つなので。

xrandr に sudo を付ける必要は有りません．

「xrandr」や「解像度」のキーワードで検索すればすぐに見つかるページです．

xrandrの結果ですと、最高の解像度は640×480のようです。

グラフィックスチップです。情報としては十分だと思います。

ドライバに関してですが、最初に質問で上手くいかなかったのですが
他にドライバがあるということなんでしょうか？

いえ、うまくいっていない原因はすでに示して頂いているログの中にあって、どうも当該ハードウェアはモニタの解像度を自動的に識別してくれないようです（なにか細工をすると自力で自動認識してくれるかもしれませんが、他の機能が無効になってしまう可能性もあります）。

ドライバは「geode」という、この環境に即したものがロードされています。ドライバが自力で認識してくれないので、こちらから解像度指定を与えてやる必要があります。

当該Wikiページのサンプルは800x600を指定する例なので、以下のように「cvt 1280 1024」として進めてください。細かい数字は異なる可能性が高いですが、以下のようになるはずです。

$ cvt 1280 1024
